What is a Flying
Elbow in Golf and does it Effect your Performance?
The Right Elbow:
During the Backswing:
Try
this flying elbow drill, it's worth a try to see if your backswing is
consistant. Place a towel under your armpit. At the top of your
backswing the towel should still be in place. If the towel falls, you
have what is called a (flying - elbow) and this can
promote inconsistency with your shots.

During
the downswing:
As
you're doing your downswing, the elbow will tuck into your
right side creating a more compact swing.

Animation
of Drill:
Place
a ball under your armpit. Make your golf swing and make sure
the ball stays under the arm during the backswing, forwardswing and
only after contact should the ball fall to the ground.

What
NOT to do:
As
you're doing your swing, the right elbow should fold in such a way that
it points toward the ground at the top of the backswing.
A flying right elbow
can result from lifting the club with your arms during your
backswing instead of turning your sholders. This can have a
negative effect in the consistency of your shots.
Happy
Golfing!!!
